Hide your face behind your hands, a book or a newspaper etc – pop out in different directions and say boo – always with a smile on your face! Children under the age of 2 haven’t yet learnt that things they can’t see are still there (object permanence) and so they are always pleasantly surprised when you reappear. As children learn that you’re still behind your hands, take it up a level by playing it around a door frame – appearing at different heights, or from behind the high chair appearing at different sides etc.
